After years of waiting and two delays, the biggest game of the year is almost here. Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Thursday, November 19, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two have kept that date, and Take-Two's boss has said there is no further delay planned.
The game was first expected in fall 2025, then moved to May 26, 2026, and finally to November 19. Rockstar apologized for the extra wait and said the time would help it finish the game with the polish players expect. It restated the date in a launch trailer on October 15.
Here are the key details. The Standard Edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99. Pre-orders opened on June 25. Anyone who pre-orders or buys before November 20 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack, a set of items inspired by the series' neon era. Digital pre-orders also include a free month of GTA+, which unlocks a library of Rockstar games, including Grand Theft Auto V.
Players can preload digitally starting November 12, one week before launch, so they can jump in right when it unlocks. The game goes live at midnight local time on November 19 in each region. Boxed copies contain a download code and are also available from November 12.
The game is set in the fictional state of Leonida, which includes a modern day version of Vice City. The story follows two main characters, Jason and Lucia. At launch, only the single-player story mode will be available, so players should not expect GTA Online right away.
There is one group who will have to wait. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, and in the past the company has released PC editions later. If you want to play on PC, you probably need patience, and you can expect heavy system requirements when it arrives.
Expect a huge launch. The game lands in the middle of the holiday shopping season, and many fans have been counting down for years. Rockstar says more details about the online side and performance will come later.
